Calendar
Planning
for college is a scary prospect for students and their parents.
We have provided this basic calendar for high school seniors and
parents to make the transition easier.
August
and September
- Decide what type of college is best for you
- Visit college campuses
- Request college catalogues and admissions
information
- Make a list of deadlines for each school you are interested
in
- Ask teachers, coaches, guidance counselors and employers for
letters of recommendation
October and November
- Take SAT and ACT exams
- Complete college essays
- Attend college fairs and high school financial aid nights
- Begin preparing college applications
December and January
- Research and apply for outside
funding or scholarships
- Assemble tax returns and W-2s to use for completing the FAFSA
- Submit your FAFSA as soon after January 1 as possible
- Continue to visit colleges and attend financial aid information
sessions
February and March
- Mail or complete your FAFSA by February 1
- Research AP and CLEP exams
- Respond to requests for information from your financial aid
office
- Remember: CNU's Priority Consideration Date for financial aid is March
1
April, May, June
and July
- Watch for acceptance letters and financial aid notifications
- Return award letters as soon as possible
- Make your final college decision and send all necessary deposits
- Review your mail for information concerning college activities
- Attend orientation
- Make a budget for the school year
- Register for classes and prepare for the college experience
